One week after the battered body of 21-year-old Amit Singh was found wrapped in a bedsheet, hours after he was lured for a fake gold deal, his suspected killer Yogeendra Sukhdeo of 20th Avenue Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was this morning remanded to prison for his murder.
Sukhdeo appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on October 24, at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, he murdered the young businessman.
The accused was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on November 28, 2023.
Sukhdeo reportedly owns several businesses – El Dorado Mining and Security, El Dorado Construction Inc., El Dorado Landscaping Solutions, and El Dorado Luxury and Rentals.
According to reports, Singh and his suspected killer are known to each other as they had conducted gold transactions in the past.
The property at Middle Road, La Penitence where Singh was killed is reportedly owned by Sukhdeo’s father. The approximate $7.7 million fleeced from Singh was found clandestinely tucked away within the confines of Sukhdeo’s residence at Diamond Housing Scheme. The money was unearthed only hours after his apprehension.
Sukhdeo had initially implicated three of his employees. However, he recanted his prior statement, confiding in investigators that he acted alone.
The police reported that Singh was bludgeoned with a piece of wood, then wrapped in a sheet. A post-mortem examination (PME) performed by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh, gave the cause of death as multiple injuries, including: blunt trauma to the head and face with multiple fractures, blunt trauma to the neck and bronchoaspiration of blood.
