Some 133 murders were committed between January 1 and November 13 this year. The figure translates to an 18.7 percent increase from last year’s 108. Deputy Commissioner, Law Enforcement Wendell Blanhum reported the figures during a crime overview he presented when the Guyana Police Force (GPF) launched its “Christman Policing 2023” plan on Wednesday.
The Crime Chief noted that in total, male victims amounted to 69.1%, with women accounting for 30.9%.
There were 319 reported cases of Robbery Under Arms (RUA) during his period, compared to 415 recorded last year. This represents a 23.1% decline.
Robbery with Violence (RWV) cases were 37 compared to 56 last year, translating to 33.9% decrease.
Blanhum reported a 33.3% decline in Larceny from the Person cases, with 34 matters, as opposed to 51 last year.
There were 182 cases of reported rape in the country between January 1 and November 13, 2023. Some 206 were recorded during the corresponding period last year. This, according Blanhum, represents an 11.6% decrease.
The stats shows that there were no reported cases of kidnapping during this period or that of 2022.
