Gordon Vantull, a 57-year-old Taxi Driver of Section ‘B’ Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was charged this morning with causing death by dangerous driving
The defendant appeared at Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Liverpool, who read the charge to him. He pleaded not guilty and was placed on $450,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to March 5, 2024.
Vantull was charged relative to an accident which occurred about 02:35 hrs yesterday on Beterverwagting Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), which resulted in the death of Denise Paul, a 54-year-old housewife of 1139 Bare Root, ECD.
The defendant (Vantull) was the driver of motor car, PKK 4206, in which the now-deceased woman was reportedly seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Vantull is accused of driving at a fast rate, losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a median.
As a result of the collision, the occupant (Denise Paul) was flung out of the vehicle and received injuries on her body. The ambulance service was summoned to the scene, and the woman was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced her dead at the scene.
