Dutch shipbuilder, SBM Offshore recently announced that it will host a Local Content Summit, slated to take place during the upcoming Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo on February 22.

The summit aims to foster dynamic discussions surrounding SBM Offshore’s supply chain opportunities and requirements, extending invitations to business owners interested in engaging in these dialogues. Scheduled from 13:00hrs to 14:30hrs, the event will unfold in the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel.

In a recent statement, Martin Cheong, General Manager of SBM Offshore Guyana, reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to investing in the local market, forging partnerships with local enterprises, and upholding rigorous training programs as integral components of its local content framework.

Moreover, Vickram Bharrat, Minister of Natural Resources, underscored the significance of the 2024 International Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo on local content during a recent press briefing. He emphasized the array of opportunities it presents to Guyanese businesses across diverse sectors, characterizing it as an optimal platform for small, medium, and large-scale enterprises to foster networking and establish collaborative ventures.

“A lot has happened since the last energy conference to this one. And increase in production (offshore) definitely spells opportunities ..opportunities throughout the value chain, opportunities for the private sector in the provision of goods and services,” Minister Bharrat said.

Reflecting on the strides made since the enactment of the Local Content Act in December 2021, Minister Bharrat highlighted a surge in joint venture partnerships between local and international entities seeking to leverage the burgeoning oil and gas industry and its ancillary sectors.

He also lauded the smooth implementation of the legislation by the Local Content Secretariat, noting the proliferation of collaborative endeavors aimed at maximizing the Act’s objectives.
