The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) may soon be equipped to deliver more dependable services to the local populace, with help from the Dominican Republic. This was announced by Rolando González Bunster, the Chairman of InterEnergy Group (IEG), who noted that his company aims to assist in the management of GPL in enhancing its operational efficiency.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the InterEnergy Group (IEG) and GPL to lay the groundwork for this partnership which, aligns with the trajectory towards renewable energy envisaged for the future. Bunster, participating as a panelist at the inaugural United Caribbean Forum in Georgetown, underscored the significance of this collaboration while addressing the theme of regional energy integration.

“We believe that we can bring to Guyana Power and Light the knowledge that has been gained over the years and help them manage their system, their electric system in a better way especially once the 300 megawatts of new generation comes on line and the future demands that they will have in their growth profile,” he said.

He lauded the Guyana Government’s strides in fostering a diverse portfolio of renewable energy sources, including solar farms and the Gas-to-Energy project.

Additionally, Bunster revealed plans for InterEnergy Group (IEG) to inaugurate 60 solar-powered automobile charging stations in the Dominican Republic, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The company is also in the process of acquiring an undisclosed entity boasting 70 megawatts of renewable energy assets across various locations in the region, along with assuming control of the largest solar farm. These strategic moves he said, signifies the InterEnergy Group’s proactive stance in integrating itself more deeply into the regional energy landscape.

Notably, this strategic alliance endeavors to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality energy services to every corner of Guyana. Bunster emphasized his company’s distinguished track record, positioning it as a valuable asset in realizing these objectives.

Moreover, GPL stands to benefit from over three decades of expertise from CEPM, a subsidiary of InterEnergy Group, renowned for its utilization of cutting-edge technology. Notably, CEPM’s commitment to transforming the tourist region in the eastern Dominican Republic into a zero-emission destination by 2030 through its CEPM Zero initiative underscores its dedication to sustainability.
