The Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Natural Resources, on Wednesday issued an Invitation for Request for Proposals, aimed at securing consulting services for a comprehensive mineral mapping study of the nation’s resources.
Earlier this year, while addressing the National Assembly, Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat had highlighted the critical need for updated mineral mapping, citing that existing data spans over four decades.
The proposed study aims to facilitate informed decision-making within the ministry, particularly in the allocation of claims and mining blocks. Moreover, it is expected to streamline prospecting and exploration processes, benefiting small and medium-scale miners by reducing associated costs.
Furthermore, the government said it is seeking a Consortium of Consultants/Consulting Firm to undertake the project titled “Consulting Services for Mineral Mapping Study of Guyana’s Mineral Resources,” focusing on both gold resources and non-traditional minerals. The endeavor seeks to bridge data gaps, lower investment barriers, foster diversification in the mining sector, and attract targeted investments from miners of various scales.
It was stated, “The identification and quantification of minerals is not the sole purpose of this mapping exercise, but it will also provide a comprehensive understanding of the significant multidimensional role of these minerals in the country’s development.”
According to the Terms of Reference as outlined by the Natural Resources Ministry, the project encompasses various facets, including Guyana’s historical mining background, study objectives, methodology, policy framework, investment climate, and current mining activities. Technical components will include findings, conclusions, and a comprehensive report outlining the mineral mapping study.
Qualified consultants are expected to demonstrate robust experience in mineral exploration, resource mapping, and report preparation, aligning closely with the study’s objectives.
For further details, interested parties may contact the Ministry of Natural Resources or visit the ministry’s office at 96 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, Guyana. Notably, proposals must be submitted by 9:00 hours on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, to the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), Ministry of Finance. Late submissions are subject to rejection.
