The Chief Whip of the Opposition, Christopher Jones has penned a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken posing questions regarding the presence of a police patrol vehicle during the party’s recent visit to South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Despite attempts to engage with the officers in the patrol vehicle, no explanation was provided for their presence, Jones said.

In his letter, Jones emphasized the need for urgent clarification on several matters. He also sought to understand whether there exists a credible threat necessitating police protection for the group and requested details regarding the nature of any potential threat, including whether it targets individuals, the group, or the party as a whole.

Furthermore, Jones requested clarification on the authority under which the police surveillance was conducted in the absence of an identified threat. He also seeks confirmation regarding any future plans for police monitoring of their activities, emphasizing the importance of transparency and adherence to constitutional freedoms.
