The 51st edition of the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships was formally launched on Friday night at Olympic House.
Guyana is set to play host for the annual event from October 17-20, with in excess of 300 athletes from 20 territories signaling their intentions to compete on the Region’s highest amateur bodybuilding stage.
During Friday’s launch which was held in the presence of President of the CAC, Tony Pena, Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) President, Godfrey Monroe, Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle along with VP of the GOA, Cristy Campbell, it was disclosed that the fixture will be held under the bright lights of the National Culture Centre.
President of the local bodybuilding federation, Keavon Bess disclosed that the Grand Coastal Hotel is the official host venue for athletes, delegates, and officials.
Bess further stated that his federation “has been grinding behind the scenes” to pull out all the stops to stage a successful event, two decades after Guyana last hosted the fixture.
The Attorney-at-Law then thanked the government of Guyana, the GOA and current platinum sponsors, Fitness Express, Camille’s Academy, New GPC, and Twins Pharmaceuticals for throwing their support behind CAC2024.
Meanwhile, Monroe and Ninvalle added that the GOA and the government are both enthused to flex their muscles in an effort to ensure that CAC2024 is a huge success. Brief remarks were also made by Peña in Spanish, which was interpreted by CAC’s Treasurer, Ed Malone.
At the previous stagings of the championships in Barbados (2022) and Aruba (2023), Team Guyana’s athletes earned massive medal hauls, and they will be looking to have an historic showing on home soil.
