Trinidad turned the tables on Guyana, drubbing the home team 26-3 in their Rugby America’s North (RAN) 15s match at the Camp Ayangana ground on Saturday afternoon.
Godfrey Broomes was the lone player for Guyana on the scoresheet, nailing a penalty after seven minutes of action.
From there forward, the visitors defense kept the scoresheet clean while racking up 26 points of their own.
Anderson Joseph recorded a hat trick of tries (52nd, 62nd, 77th) after Jonathan Taylor first breached the local’s tri-line in the 33rd minute.
Trinidad’s emphatic victory was in stark contrast to the nail biting 24-23 away win Guyana recorded in April at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Following the setback loss, President of the Rugby Union, Ryan Dey stated that his charges will have to get back to the drawing board.
Emphasizing the need for improvement, Dey stated the union’s commitment to developing their young players in the 15s format, while also highlighting the importance of immediate preparation for the upcoming RAN Sevens tournament in Trinidad scheduled for late November.
Guyana has an enviable record in Sevens, having clinched the title eight times.
Saturday’s defeat likely means Guyana will have to travel to Barbados for their next RAN 15s fixture, as the top-ranked team enjoys a home advantage.
