Attorney-at-Law, Sanjeev Datadin on Friday issued a letter to veteran journalist, Enrico Woolford, demanding a retraction and full apology for a libelous Facebook post made about his client, Natural Resources Minister, Vickram Bharrat.
In the letter seen by this news agency, Datadin noted that Woolford, on July 12, 2024, made a Facebook post, stating that the minister was “met, escorted off and questioned by Federal Agents at the JFK airport last night, July 11, 2024.” Datadin informed Woolford that his account of what transpired is totally false and without merit.
“…I am instructed to inform you that your statement is defamatory and has caused injury to my client’s reputation and good character. Further, I am instructed to demand a full and public apology to be published immediately,” the lawyer’s letter stated.
Additionally, Datadin said he was instructed by this client to demand a retraction of the said post on or before July 14, 2024 at 2pm.
Having regard to the gravity of the false allegations and the audience to which it circulated, Datadin said his client is clearly entitled to substantial compensation and reasonable legal costs. Woolford was therefore asked to make an offer in this regard.
Failing a satisfactory reply to the foregoing requests, Datadin said legal proceedings would be initiated. He further noted that advice is being sought on the criminal charges that can be laid as a result of the libelous post.
