An inundation of requests from businesses, Guyanese back home for the holidays, members of the public and even senior public officials seeking to fully enjoy the Christmas Season, have resulted in the Ministry of Public Security opting to relax the usual 2am curfew.
This is according to information released by the Ministry today which noted that, in conjunction with the Guyana Police Force, it has decided to relax the enforcement of the 2 am business deadline for bars, night clubs and other places of entertainment.
“It is a time for celebration and knowing the Guyanese spirit the Ministry is persuaded and sees the need for this relaxation,” a statement by the Ministry outlined.
However, during this period, the Ministry underscored that other laws, especially those prohibiting drinking and driving and noise nuisance, will be thoroughly enforced through more vehicular patrols and policemen outside partying spots. As such party goers are advised to utilize the services of designated drivers even as moves are made to ensure noise levels at partying spots are not excessive.
“Everything in moderation is what is called for,” the Ministry noted even as it urged that “everyone be particularly safety-conscious during this busy season, especially on the roadways.”
The relaxation of the curfew will span the period December 21, 2018 to January 7, 2019.
As of January 8, 2019, the 2am curfew will be back on stream.
