A row over High Wine at Imbaimadai Landing ended in a fiery attack yesterday, leading to one person sustaining second-degree burns and another arrested.

Guyana Standard understands that 44-year-old miner James Thomas, also known as “Wormie,” was severely burnt in an apparent murder attempt.

The incident unfolded after a dispute between Thomas and a 53-year-old fellow miner, both of whom were drinking High Wine together. When Thomas took the suspect’s bottle and refused to return it, the enraged suspect doused him with the alcohol and set him on fire.

Thomas was taken to the Imbaimadai Health Post, before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment. According to the medical report, the burns sustained were classified as second-degree.

The 53-year-old suspect was arrested and placed in custody as investigations continue.
