Police yesterday morning responded to a report of a protest and blockage of Denis Street, Sophia, allegedly caused by the rejection of the proposed teacher’s salary increase.
On arrival, police observed that the road was blocked by about 15 tyres, suspected to have been placed there by three men on two motorcycles. Police chased and apprehended one of the suspects, who is in custody.
According to the police, information received suggests that teachers in the area allegedly paid the men to commit the act.
Police also searched the area where the road was blocked and found 16 ‘Flambo’ glass bottles and two gallon bottles of what appeared to be a flammable substance (gas or diesel). Further investigations are ongoing.
