LNDCH4 Guyana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources, recently hosted a two-day educational initiative aimed at nurturing the next generation of leaders in Guyana’s energy sector. As part of the Youths in Natural Resources Apprenticeship Programme, 40 participants had the opportunity to visit and explore the construction site of the Gas-to-Energy power plant on August 20 and 22, 2024.

This initiative underscores LNDCH4 Guyana’s ongoing commitment to supporting the country’s sustainable development and engaging young leaders in its expanding energy industry. The program featured a detailed presentation on the significance of the Gas-to-Energy power plant project, emphasizing its importance to Guyana’s energy future and its role in reducing the nation’s carbon footprint. Participants also toured the construction site, witnessing firsthand the progress of this landmark project.

Humberto Lopez, Country Manager of LNDCH4 Guyana, who led the presentation, emphasized the importance of involving young people in the country’s energy transition. “The Gas-to-Energy project is a cornerstone of Guyana’s energy transition, and it is crucial that our young people are engaged and informed about the opportunities and challenges in this sector. We believe that initiatives like this will inspire the next generation to take an active role in the country’s energy future,” he said.

During the visit, participants were also inspired by a motivational speech from Kesh Nandlall, the head of Guyana Power and Light (GPL), who shared his insights on the energy sector’s potential and the critical role of youth in shaping Guyana’s future.

LNDCH4 Guyana and the Ministry of Natural Resources said they remain committed to their partnership, aiming to foster greater youth engagement in the energy sector. They said the collaboration highlights LNDCH4 Guyana’s dedication to education and its mission to utilize Guyana’s natural resources responsibly, paving the way for a sustainable and prosperous future for all Guyanese.
