The ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ณ๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ๐ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ญ (๐๐๐๐) has recommended that Assistant Commissioner, Calvin Brutus be slapped with “dozens” of charges stemming from an extended financial probe.
The senior cop is being accused of financial impropriety.
SOCU made the revelation in its attempt to debunk a daily newspaper’s article that no evidence of crime was found in SOCU’s Investigation.
The release is below:
The article which appeared in todayโs Stabroek Newspaper under the caption โ๐บ๐ถ๐ช๐ผ ๐ท๐น๐ถ๐ฉ๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ถ ๐ฉ๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ผ๐บ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ต๐ซ๐บ ๐ต๐ถ ๐ฌ๐ฝ๐ฐ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ต๐ช๐ฌ ๐ถ๐ญ ๐ช๐น๐ฐ๐ด๐ฌโ, is misleading.
Earlier this year, SOCU launched an investigation into certain activities of Assistant Commissioner Brutus and at the end of that investigation, based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions, no criminal charges were recommended.
Subsequently, based on critical information received by SOCU from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), a new and more expansive investigation was conducted by SOCU.
That investigation was concluded on 2024-10-01, and all the relevant files were sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for review, advice and further action.
In respect of this latter expansive investigation, SOCU recommended dozens of charges.
SOCU now awaits the legal advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
