Highlighting the wealth of opportunities at next year’s Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo (GEC&SCE), Chief Executive Officer Kiana Wilburg urges local companies to stay open-minded and be eager to learn.

The official, during an interview with the Guyana Standard, emphasised the need for such qualities, noting that the event, slated for February 18 to 21, 2025, will be the largest of its kind locally, and indeed, within the Caribbean Region.

Also, the event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers and business professionals under one roof to achieve four main objectives: exchange ideas that address challenges and opportunities for sustainable development, drive opportunities for innovation and collaboration, increase participation of women and other local stakeholders, and extending opportunities for growth and development to Guyanese leaders, be it in the boardrooms or classrooms.

Wilburg said that the event provides fertile grounds for local companies to rub shoulders with regional and international experts. These interactions, she noted, can be fruitful, especially for the new startups.

“To the new companies on the block, this is my advice: Approach the oil and gas sector with an open mind to forging partnerships and a hunger to learn. The oil and gas industry is one that thrives on connections, networking is key to opening doors for learning as well as finding mentors who have walked the road before you and can share insights on the dos and don’ts in finding and tapping procurement opportunities,” the CEO said.

Equally important, she underscored is that Guyana’s Local Content law legalizes locals’ right for first preference when companies seek providers across 40 categories of work.

“At the Guyana Energy Conference, you will be entering the gateway to a minimum of 3000 opportunities for learning about the industry, either from experts or companies. Take advantage of it all and position yourself to play a leading role in the development story of your country,” Wilburg noted.
