ANSA McAL Limited, the Caribbean’s leading conglomerate, has made its largest acquisition to date, purchasing U.S.-based chlor-alkali producer BLEACHTECH L.L.C. for US$327 million through its subsidiary, ANSA Chemicals US LLC. The acquisition marks a pivotal move for ANSA McAL as it expands its footprint beyond the Caribbean, entering the North American chemicals market.
BLEACHTECH operates two plants in Seville, Ohio, and Petersburg, Virginia, specializing in the production of sodium hypochlorite (bleach), sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), and hydrochloric acid. ANSA McAL’s subsidiary, ANSA McAL Chemicals Limited, has been the leading chlor-alkali producer in the English-speaking Caribbean for over 35 years, particularly known for serving water treatment needs across CARICOM.
“This acquisition is a major milestone in ANSA McAL’s 2X growth strategy,” said Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ANSA McAL Limited , Anthony N. Sabga III. “BLEACHTECH will significantly enhance our business portfolio, enabling us to better serve both loyal and new customers across the U.S,” the CEO said.
Sabga also emphasized the company’s focus on sustainability, noting that BLEACHTECH’s role in water purification aligns with ANSA McAL’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, promoting sustainable water management.
Andy Mahadeo, ANSA McAL’s Sector Head for Chemicals, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition’s growth potential in the Americas, adding that the company aims to invest in BLEACHTECH’s operations and workforce to drive demand and optimize production.
BLEACHTECH’s former owner, Richard Immerman, lauded ANSA McAL’s dedication to the acquisition process, highlighting the company’s commitment to the BLEACHTECH team and local communities.
