Vice President, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo has once again encouraged embattled Assistant Commissioner of Police, Calvin Brutus, to release to the public, whatever information he has about corruption and corrupt officials within the Guyana Police Force.

Jagdeo made the foregoing comment on Thursday afternoon at Freedom House when he was asked about the recent civil proceedings filed by Brutus against several senior members of the Guyana Police Force and the Special Organised Crime Unit, alleging misconduct and malfeasance in public office. Brutus is seeking damages in excess of $400 million and also called for a presidential Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the operations of senior officers.

“Listen, Brutus is in deep trouble…I think Brutus is clever at building smokes screens, and that’s all I’m going to say. Now, if he knew about all of this, this big upright officer, why did you wait until you got 240 charges to call for an inquiry now?…” Dr Jagdeo responded.

He stated that now that the matter is before the court, Brutus can make whatever disclosure he wants. Jagdeo further called on Brutus to release whatever information he has to the public.

“If he has all of this corruption that people engage in, release it to the public. That’s what I said, release it to the public,” Jagdeo added.

On Monday, Brutus was granted bail totalling $10 million. This is in relation to 201 additional charges for offence of liability of an officer.
