Junior sprint sensation Malachi Austin, 17, has announced his verbal commitment to Louisiana State University (LSU), one of the NCAA’s premier track and field programmes. The former Tutorial High School standout and member of the Running Brave Athletic Club will begin his collegiate career in the upcoming semester, aiming to further his meteoric rise in athletics.

Specializing in the 400m, Austin boasts a stellar track record. He captured gold at this year’s CARIFTA Games and claimed silver at the Youth Commonwealth Games, cementing his status as one of the world’s top young prospects in the quarter-mile. His personal bests—46.35 seconds in the 400m and 21.55 seconds in the 200m—showcase his potential to become a future Olympian.

Julian Edmonds, Austin’s coach, expressed confidence in his protégé’s future: “From the start, I promised Malachi that a scholarship was within his reach. He has the talent to break into the 44-second range for the 400m and go sub-20 seconds in the 200m.”

Austin’s move to LSU will provide him the platform to compete against top-tier collegiate athletes, and he is determined to make his mark. With his raw talent and dedication, the young sprinter is poised for greatness.
