From a young age, Shania Sampson’s love for baking was undeniable, though she never envisioned turning her passion into a profitable business. Everything changed in December 2022 when life redirected her path.

Hailing from the mining and logging community of Kwakwani in Region 10, Sampson is currently pursuing a degree in Business Management at the University of Guyana. In an exclusive interview with the Guyana Standard, the young baker and cake designer shared the story of how her business, Triple S Creations, was officially launched on December 31, 2022.

Reflecting on her journey, Sampson explained, “At first, I never imagined myself in the business world. During high school, I was in the business stream and did well academically, but my passion for baking always stood out. While I loved cake decorating, I never thought of it as a business opportunity.”

Her perspective changed dramatically when she secured a job in Georgetown as a cake decorator at a catering company. However, the role soon became overwhelming.

“Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse as I faced mounting pressure at work. It was tough, but I’ve learned that sometimes God places us in challenging situations to push us toward our true purpose. Instead of giving up, I realized this was the push I needed to pursue what I truly loved,” she said.

Determined not to give up on her love for baking and cake decorating, Sampson decided to take a leap of faith. “That’s when it hit me: ‘Why not start my own business?’ With the little money I had in my bank account, I decided to invest in this dream,” she recounted.

A Journey of Learning and Growth

To enhance her skills, Sampson took classes and connected with other bakers who generously shared tips and insights. “My love for baking has always been my motivation, and I’m constantly driven to refine and enhance my craft,” she shared.

Since its inception, Triple S Creations has received overwhelming support. The young entrepreneur described her journey as both exciting and humbling, with one of her biggest milestones being a significant increase in clientele. “It’s incredible to see how far I’ve come and how much support I’ve received,” she expressed.

However, success did not come easily. One of her initial challenges was the lack of tools to create certain cake designs. “It was frustrating at times, but I saw it as an opportunity to grow. Over time, I invested in the right tools and equipment, which allowed me to bring my creative visions to life,” she said.

Another hurdle was building a consistent clientele and establishing effective business policies. “At first, it felt overwhelming, but with experience and persistence, I learned to carefully refine policies to suit my business needs,” Sampson explained. These challenges taught her resilience and the importance of continuous growth, shaping the foundation of her thriving business.

A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, Sampson aims to expand her business and elevate her craft. “Ultimately, I envision creating a brand that is synonymous with quality and creativity. I hope to extend my services across Guyana, reaching more communities and sharing my passion for baking with a wider audience,” she expressed.

Her plans include offering a wider variety of products and services to meet the diverse needs of her growing clientele.
