A two-year-old boy from Kwakwani Waterfront drowned on Wednesday afternoon in the Upper Berbice River, police have confirmed.
The child, identified as Tauren McLeanon, reportedly went to the river to bathe shortly after 3:00 p.m. when he disappeared, according to his mother, 39-year-old housewife Tamika Joaquin.
Residents launched an immediate search, and the child’s lifeless body was later pulled from the river. He was taken to the Kwakwani Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
