President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has announced that the One Guyana Digital School will be launched in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) before May. This initiative aims to integrate technology into education, enhancing learning opportunities for students across the country.

“The Guyana Digital School will allow every single child to learn on a digital platform because every child must be able to function in a digital environment. Every single child will be in a learning environment 24-7, and you will have before the end of May, the Digital School will be launched right here in Berbice,” the president stated during a public engagement at the Albion Sports Complex on Saturday.

Region Six is one of three regions selected for the Digital School initiative, along with Region Two and Region Three. The aim is to provide interactive and high-quality education accessible to students not only in Guyana but throughout the Caribbean.

The digital school will complement existing physical schools, ensuring all students, even in the most remote areas, have access to learning materials. This initiative is part of a broader development plan for Region Six, which also includes a new nursing and medical school.

Additionally, the government is investing in digital learning solutions through the Ministry of Education to prepare the younger generation for the growing digital economy.

As part of these efforts, a national digital payment platform will be launched, allowing Guyanese to make payments directly from their mobile devices. Self-service kiosks will also be created for services like driver’s license renewals, reducing bureaucracy and improving efficiency.

“These investments are designed to prepare the country for future crises, including potential pandemics like COVID-19,” the president noted.
