An accident on the Moblissa Public Road along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Monday night.
The collision occurred around 22:00hrs and involved three vehicles: a green and silver minibus (BRR 8331) owned by Vibert Amsterdam and driven by Maurice Meredith, 54, of Lot 84 1st Alley, Wismar, Linden; a white motor car (PXX 3747) owned and parked by Alonso Cornelius, 53, of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden; and a motorcycle (CL 7080) owned and ridden by 39-year-old Markind Jackson of Silver Hill Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the minibus was heading south on the eastern side of the road at an alleged high rate of speed when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle veered onto the western lane and collided head-on with Jackson’s motorcycle, which was heading in the opposite direction. The impact pushed the motorcycle and its rider into the parked motor car on the western side of the road.
Jackson sustained serious injuries and was rendered unconscious. Meredith, the minibus driver, was found semi-conscious at the scene. Both men were transported by police and a passing vehicle to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Jackson was pronounced dead on arrival. Meredith was admitted for observation and is currently under police guard.
The motorcyclist’s body has been taken to Pensioners Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
