The courtroom of Justice Navindra Singh was filled to capacity this morning as seven persons, including one woman, were brought to face a murder charge.
The murder accused are Allan Dorsett called ‘Baird’, ‘Fat man’, ‘Allen’ or ‘Dada’; Delwayne Croft; Esan Lawrence called ‘Muscle’; Jermain Williams called ‘Yankee’; Andrew Chandler called ‘Sonic’ or ‘Sowie’; Samuel Bacchus called ‘Kirk’; and Casindra Dorsett, also known as ‘Cassandra Singh-Dorsett’.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 10, 2013, in the county of Demerara, they murdered Zulfiker Namdar called ‘Vickey’ in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Appearing for Allan Dorsett are attorneys-at-law Nigel Hughes and Ashley Henry. Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson appeared for Lawrence, Croft and Casindra Dorsett, while attorney-at-law George Thomas represented Williams, Chandler and Bacchus.
Appearing for the prosecution are State Counsel Tuanna Harding and State Counsel Abigail Gibbs.
Testifying for the prosecution this morning were the parents of the deceased who recounted how gunmen stormed their home. Namdar’s mother, who appeared emotional, recalled that she was gun-butted by one of the intruders.
As for the father, he testified that he hid in a bedroom from where he heard loud gunshots and one of the gunmen conversing with his wife. Both of them testified that they could not recognise any of the persons who invaded their home. In court, both parents pointed out Chandler, who they testified to knowing for decades.
According to information, on September 10, 2013 heavily armed persons wearing masks stormed Namdar’s home at Lot 76 Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara where, where he resided with his parents and two children, and shot and killed him. The bandits reportedly escaped with a large sum of cash and jewellery.
This trial is continuing at the High Court in Georgetown, where tight security has been put in place to assist with the smooth flow of the trial.
