The investigation into the murder of Kelvin Walters, the security guard who was executed last Wednesday at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD), is at a standstill as the two suspects remain hospitalized.
The suspects have been identified as 35-year-old Devon Williams and Roderick Thomas, 27. Williams is at a private hospital while Thomas is hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
It is believed that the men sustained their injuries when the victim rammed his vehicle into their motorcycle, causing them to fall onto the ground. Williams suffered from a broken leg and pelvis while Thomas sustained a broken leg.
The two men were forced to escape on foot, leaving their motorcycle and murder weapon behind. They are considered the prime suspects in the execution-style killing of the security guard. They are under police guard at the hospitals.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that the suspects will make their court appearance when they are discharged from the hospital.
Reports are that Walters’ death is linked to an ongoing trial in the high court involving three men who have been accused of throwing a live grenade at a vehicle owned by Glenn Lall, owner of Kaieteur News in 2017.
Walters was the main witness in that trial. Devon Williams is said to be a relative of one of the men who has been charged for the grenade attack. Walters was a witness in the ongoing trial.
For the grenade attack on Kaieteur News, Alfie Garraway, Janeil Howard, and Leroy Williams are before the court. It was Walters’ testimony that landed the men behind bars for the attack.
