“Fruitful” and “useful” were how President David Granger described his March 6 meeting with Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo. But at a press conference this afternoon, Jagdeo disclosed that he did not share those sentiments; instead, he called the meeting “unproductive”.

According to the PPP General Secretary, he recalled that talks with the Head of State did not make it beyond the topic of setting a date for elections. Furthermore, Jagdeo said that while he agreed to another meeting with the President, it will only take place if Granger writes him about the date he has slated for elections.

Jagdeo said, “I will meet again with him if there is a date for elections. He has to say to me that he is prepared to name a date.”

President Granger is expected to meet with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) tomorrow regarding its readiness for holding credible elections. He will also seek to ascertain the funds and time needed by the autonomous body to prepare for the polls.
