A serial robber escaped from the Whim Police Station late yesterday. The suspect has been identified as Dinesh Sookram of Friendship, Corentyne. Up to press time, police ranks in Berbice were looking for him.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that hours before the suspect broke out of the lockups at the Whim Police Station, he appeared before a magistrate and was charged with break and enter and larceny.
He was placed on bail but could not afford to pay the sum. As such, he was placed in the Whim Station lockup, waiting to be taken to the New Amsterdam Prison.
According to information received, it was when ranks went to get the suspect to transfer him to the prison, that they discovered he was missing.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
