A Kitty man who begged the court to have mercy on his life was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $30,000 after being found with eight grams of marijuana in his pants pocket.

His sentence this afternoon was doled out by a city magistrate following the finding of drugs on him during a police search.

Twenty-three-year-old Michael Gouveia of Lot 13 Shell Road, Kitty, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that, on March 20, 2019, at Kitty, he had 8.69 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The young man appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh stated that on the day in question, at about 10:30hrs, police on patrol duty observed Gouveia acting in a suspicious manner and conducted a search on him.

The Prosecutor added that an officer found
five ziplock parcels in his possession, and when cautioned, he admitted ownership of the drug.

The Magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor’s facts, imposed a three year sentence on him along with a fine of $30,000.
