A young man who was recently released from prison after serving two years for illegally possessing a gun and ammo was this afternoon remanded to prison after denying two robbery charges.
Twenty-year-old Adam Mohamed, a mason of Calendar Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Marcus-Issacs in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was slapped with two armed robbery charges.
The first charge against Mohammed alleged that on March 1, 2019 at East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, while being armed with a gun and in the company of others, he robbed Talmatti Persaud of a handbag, cell phone, and other items amounting to $36,000.
The second charge alleged that on August 22, 2018 at Albouystown, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Andre Jordon of a Guyana passport valued at $5,000.
The unrepresented man pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him.
Police Prosecutor, Quinn Harris, opposed to bail being granted to Mohammed, citing that he is known to the victims and was also positively identified.
The Prosecutor also highlighted the fact that a gun was allegedly used and the penalty the charges attract.
He added that Mohamed was recently released from prison after serving two years for possession on an unlicensed gun and ammo.
The Magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor’s facts, remanded the young man to prison until April 8, 2019.
