A teenager who allegedly stabbed a man several times about his body after the two got into an argument over a stolen hammock was yesterday charged for the offence.
Emmanuel McLeod, 19, of Madhia, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
McLeod was not required to plead to the capital offence which alleged that on March 24, 2019, at 111 Miles Mahdia, Region Eight, he murdered Hubert Willis, 21, of Campbelltown Village, Mahdia.
Facts presented by the court prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield stated that, on the day in question, Willis was walking along the Mahdia roadway to his camp when he saw McLeod and confronted him about a hammock he allegedly stole from him.
The Prosecutor added that at the time of the confrontation both men were intoxicated. McLeod reportedly became annoyed, pulled out a knife from his pocket, and stabbed Willis several times about his body. He then made good his escape.
The injured man fell to the ground, was picked up in an unconscious state, and was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital before he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
He later died on March 24,12019 as a result of his injuries.
The Chief Magistrate remanded McLeod to prison until April 16, 2019. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on at the Madiha Magistrate’s Court.
