Several complaints made out to the Ministry of the Presidency about contracts being awarded by Junior Minister of Communities, Valerie Adams-Yearwood, to her husband seemingly did not fall on deaf ears. But sources say that while an investigation was launched, action is yet to be taken on the probe’s findings.
Guyana Standard has been reliably informed that President David Granger became concerned to the point where he ordered an investigation into the operations of the minister and her husband, Godfrey Yearwood.
Sources at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) and the Ministry of the Presidency (MoTP) confirmed that the President ordered an investigation sometime last year. Sources say that Minister Adams-Yearwood, who has responsibility for housing, breached several protocols and even procurement laws.
One source went as far as to say, “She is not any better than Irfaan [Ali, former Minister of Housing].”
The complaints that forced President Granger to order the investigation ranged from matters relating to Adams-Yearwood reportedly providing her husband with contracts to the way she communicates with her colleague, Senior Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan.
Sources say that Minister Adams-Yearwood seemingly prides herself on not being answerable to anyone other than Minister of State, Joseph Harmon. “She is disrespectful to Minister Bulkan and does not even talk to CEO,” one source explained.
This news agency was told, “Everyone was optimistic when the President ordered the investigation but then nothing happened.”
