One Kitty woman has landed herself in hot water after she allegedly launched a surprise attack on the girlfriend of her child’s father, leaving the woman with one less finger and several chop wounds about the body.
A smiling Revelana Smith, 25, of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was this morning remanded to prison for attempting to murder Renetta Bharrat, a policewoman. Her remand came after serious objections were made by the prosecution to her being released on bail.
Smith, who smiled throughout her court proceedings before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that, on March 26, 2019 at Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, she wounded Renetta Bharrat with the intent to murder her.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers stated that, on the day in question, the policewoman received a phone call from her boyfriend, who has a child with Smith.
She then proceeded to Kitty to meet him but, on arrival, Smith exited a car with a cutlass in her hand and began chopping Bharrat about her body.
She then made good her escape while Bharrat was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was admitted a patient for her injuries.
Smith’s lawyer, Adrian Thompson, in an unsuccessful bail application, told the court that he is surprised that his client was charged with attempted murder and not wounding. This, he claimed, might be because of the fact that the victim is a police officer.
The Prosecutor made serious objections to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the serious nature of the allegation and the penalty the crime attracts.
He added that after the incident occurred, Smith went into hiding and was only recently captured in Sophia.
The Magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor’s facts, remanded the woman to prison until April 24, 2019.
Smith, while making her way into the court lock-up shouted, “We gone walk the walk and talk the talk. Y’all call my friend and tell him I’m in here.”
