A teenager who allegedly snatched a woman’s phone outside of popular nightclub, Palm Court, was moments ago remanded to prison for the offence.
Terone McLoud, 19, of Plaisance, Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, denied the charge which stated that on April 17, 2019 at Main Street, Georgetown, he stole a cellular phone valued $170,000, property of Shamay English.
McLoud appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
The court heard that on the day in question, around midnight, the woman exited Palm Court and was proceeding to her car when the defendant walked up to her and snatched her phone before running towards Middle Street, Georgetown.
The woman quickly raised an alarm and police on mobile patrol responded promptly and arrested the defendant who was hiding in a yard.
A search was then conducted on him and the stolen phone was recovered in his pants pocket.
He was also positively identified by the woman as the person who robbed her of her phone.
Because of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty it attracts, the Prosecutor asked that the defendant is remanded to prison.
The Prosecutor’s objection was upheld by the Magistrate and the defendant was remanded to prison until April 26, 2019.
