The Ministry of Public Health is on a mission to ensure the health and well-being of all Guyanese can be realised by 2030. Moreover, Public Health Minister, Volda Lawrence, and other health officials are urging Guyanese to take advantage of the services that will be on offer from June 5-8 at the Sophia Exhibition Site during Health Expo 2019.
At the official launch of the event at the Umana Yana on Thursday, Public Health Minister, Volda Lawrence, said that her ministry is tasked with a very important role, which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal #3.
This goal, the minister said, speaks to good health and well-being that will “ensure that all our citizens in Guyana are among the healthiest in the Caribbean and the Americas.”
Last year’s Health expo attracted 70 local and foreign exhibitors, while this year the numbers are expected to exceed that amount. This year, the event will include a career day, a fitness centre, the launching of the non-communicable diseases risk factor reduction campaign, a mini exposition on tobacco control, seminars, and workshops.
Minister within the Public Health Ministry, Dr. Karen Cummings, acknowledged the stakeholders and participants for making the event a success and further encouraged persons to take full advantage of the services the expo will offer.
She also urged staff to let their professional approach to tasks, dedication to duty, and commitment to best practices, “be the hallmark you provide to the people of Guyana.”
After this year the Health Expo will be held biannually.
