A 46-year-old mechanic was shot dead late last night when two men invaded his Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) home.
The incident happened just after 21:00 hrs.
Dead is Somdat Ramgobin called “Rakesh,” a mechanic of Parika Backdam. He was shot in the head by one of the two bandits.
The police said the suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash from the deceased who also operated a grocery shop at his home.
According to information received, the deceased lived alone but had a male friend, Ravi (only name given) at his place when the bandits turned up.
The police said that Ravi informed investigators that he was in the kitchen when the two men appeared at the back of him and asked for the deceased.
Ravi was put to lie on the kitchen floor while they tortured the deceased and demanded that he hand over cash.
The Guyana Standard was told that the mechanic handed over a sum of cash and shortly after, he was shot in the head by one of the men. Both parties then made good their escape. No one has been arrested as yet.
