Another woman has been murdered. This time, it is 39-year-old Farida Khayum, a mother of three of Anna Regina on the Essequibo Coast.
Khayum was stabbed to death around 22:00 hrs last night by her reputed husband, Devanand Narine, who attempted to kill himself by ingesting a poisonous substance.
He is now under police guard receiving medical attention. The Guyana Standard has been informed that the couple had an argument yesterday afternoon after which the man left the home. He however returned late last night while the woman was doing chores and an argument again escalated.
The police said that the victim was washing dishes when the suspect walked up from behind and plunged a knife into her neck. He then proceeded to stab her several times about the body. She died on the spot. The victim was killed in the presence of one of her young children.
Khayum is the second woman to have been killed by a partner within the week. On Tuesday, the body of Zaila Sugrim was found in a shallow grave at Crane, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
She was shot in the face and then burnt before being buried. Her estranged partner, Ryan Sugrim, has since confessed to murdering her.
